Peyronie's Disease

Peyronie's disease is a connective tissue disorder in which fibrous plaque forms within the penis, causing curvature, pain, and difficulty with intercourse. Effective treatments are available — particularly when addressed during the active phase.

Symptoms

  • Penile curvature during erections
  • Pain with erections or intercourse
  • Palpable lump or hard area along the shaft
  • Penile shortening or hourglass deformity
  • Associated erectile dysfunction

Causes & Risk Factors

  • Penile microtrauma during sexual activity
  • Genetic predisposition or family history
  • Age 40–70 and diabetes
  • Prior radical prostatectomy

  • Xiaflex injections (FDA-approved, acute phase, ≥30°)
  • Verapamil or interferon injections (off-label)
